Thermal Energy Storage
Join businesses, schools and colleges statewide that have taken advantage of this cutting-edge technology. Thermal Energy Storage (TES) systems produce and store cold water or ice at night, when power is less expensive, and use it to cool your building efficiently throughout the day. The results - a reduction in on-peak electricity use and lower energy bills!
How Does Your Business Benefit?
A Thermal Energy Storage (TES) system can save your business a great deal of energy
and money by enabling you to take advantage of:
- Less expensive time-of-use rate: Since TES works at night to meet your daytime cooling needs, you pay a lower off-peak time-of-use rate
- Lower demand charge: TES moves heavy energy usage off-peak, reducing your demand
- Savings on A/C compressors: TES could eliminate the need to buy large, expensive compressors to meet your cooling demand
For added savings, you can also install a cold air distribution system, which allows you to take advantage of the colder temperatures supplied by the TES system. Using cold air distribution lets you reduce the size of air-distribution ductwork, which saves you money on construction costs.
TES can be more costly than conventional air conditioning because of the storage tank needed but our incentives can offset part of the cost of your investment.
Incentives include:
- $2,500 toward a pre-approved feasibility study conducted by a professional engineer that you select
- $464 per ton to $580 per ton of cooling load removed from the summer (June through September) on-peak period of 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. This depends upon the type of cooling equipment used
- An additional $16 to $20 per ton for system initial commissioning
