Thermal Energy Storage: Maximizing Efficiency Around the Clock

Breaking down the savings | Thermal Energy Storage: Impressive savings for your business | How to qualify | Start saving today | Business Works: A case study of success

Join businesses, schools and colleges statewide that have taken advantage of this cutting edge technology to slash their energy costs. Thermal Energy Storage (TES) systems produce and store cold water or ice at night, when power is less expensive, and uses it to cool your building efficiently throughout the day, when rates are higher. The results - a reduction in on-peak electricity use and lower energy bills.

For added savings, you also can install a cold air distribution system, which allows you to take advantage of the colder temperatures supplied by the TES system. Using cold air distribution lets you reduce the size of air distribution ductwork and water distribution piping, which saves you money on construction costs.

Breaking down the savings

If you're considering TES, we'll assist you with the following incentives:

  • Once you're pre-approved for the system, $2,500 toward a pre-approved feasibility study conducted by a professional engineer that you select (applies to chiller and refrigeration systems only).
  • A $464 incentive per ton (Chiller), $522 per ton (DX) or $580 per ton (Refrigeration) of cooling load removed from the summer on-peak: noon to 9 p.m., weekdays, April through October.
  • An additional $16-20 per ton for initial system commissioning.

Plus, your Customer Manager will help you through the entire process from analysis to installation.

Thermal Energy Storage: Impressive savings for your business

A TES system can save your business a great deal of energy and money by taking advantage of

  • less expensive time-of-use rate - since TES works at night to meet your daytime cooling needs, you pay a lower off-peak time-of-use rate
  • lower demand charge - TES moves heavy energy usage off-peak, reducing your demand - and
  • savings on A/C compressors - TES can eliminate the need to buy larger, expensive compressors to meet your peak cooling demand.

How to qualify

To qualify for FPL's TES program, your business must meet the following criteria:
