FPL Programs in Your Community

FPL recognizes that the success of our company depends on the prosperity of the communities that we serve. We believe that we have a responsibility as a corporate citizen and good neighbor to improve the quality of life in these communities.

"FPL will improve the quality of life in our communities by identifying important community needs and offering the strengths of our company and the talent of our employees in meeting those needs."

Community focus

We survey key community members throughout our service area to obtain their assistance in determining the most important needs of the community. These needs are evaluated along with company and employee strengths and business objectives to determine FPL's community involvement priorities.

FPL supports education at all levels. However, the focus of the programs supported by the company vary at different grades:

• Our outreach at the elementary and middle school levels is primarily directed towards teaching children about energy, electrical safety and energy conservation.
• College and university level support focuses on institutions that prepare our future workforce and provide the expertise in R&D and employee development necessary to maintain FPL as a high performance organization.

Our company operates within environmentally sensitive locations around the state and takes its role as environmental steward very seriously. Our environmental outreach primarily focuses on

• endangered species protection including manatees, American crocodiles, sea turtles and other plant and animal species
• efforts that preserve the natural environment of our communities
• waste minimization and pollution prevention, and
• energy conservation.

FPL's diverse customer base provides many challenges and opportunities in the local communities. Efforts in this area specifically target

• the needs of the elderly
• low-income households and
• multi-cultural requirements.

Much of our human services support is accomplished through United Way. FPL and its employees have contributed more than $20 million to United Way in the last decade alone.
