Temporary construction service

Temporary or construction service is usually a limited term service to installations such as:

  • fairs
  • exhibitions
  • construction projects
  • displays and
  • similar projects.

This service is available only when FPL has existing capacity in lines, transformers and other equipment at the requested point of delivery. Temporary/construction service may not be immediately available. Please contact your local FPL engineering office to determine the availability of the service.

Temporary service poles must be inspected by the local municipality prior to FPL supplying service.

If temporary/construction service is available, the applicable nonrefundable cost to install and remove or connect and disconnect a service is as follows:

  • Overhead - installed within 80 feet of FPL's point of delivery - $297. A refundable deposit will be billed to the new temporary/construction account.
  • Underground - Customer's wire from temporary pole must be installed back to FPL's point of delivery - $175. A refundable deposit will be billed to the new temporary/construction account.

Residential underground service from an overhead source

When requested by the customer, FPL will install underground service laterals from an overhead system to newly constructed residential buildings containing fewer than five (5) separate dwelling units.

The charge for this underground service is a differential cost between overhead service and an underground service lateral - $741.63.

Additional charges also may apply. Underground service or secondary extensions beyond the boundaries of the property being served will be subject to additional differential costs as determined by individual cost estimates.

Underground distribution facilities for residential subdivisions, mobile homes and developments

When requested by the customer, FPL will provide underground electric distribution facilities for new residential subdivisions of five (5) or more building lots or for tracts of land upon which five (5) or more dwelling units are to be located. These costs are based on serving the underground system within the subdivision from overhead feeder mains.

The cost to provide new residential underground distribution facilities is based on a differential cost between overhead distribution and underground distribution. Additional charges also may apply. Underground service or secondary extensions beyond the boundaries of the property being served will be subject to additional differential costs as determined by individual cost estimates.

Where density is 6.0 or more dwelling units per acre: ranges from $0.00 to $71.88 per service lateral. These include:

  • buildings that do not exceed four units
  • townhomes
  • mobile homes and
  • mobile homes having customer owned services from the meter center installed adjacent to the FPL primary trench route - $0.00 per dwelling unit.

Where density is 0.5 or more, but fewer than 6.0 dwelling units per acre: ranges from $82.55 to $389.55 per service lateral. These include:

  • buildings that do not exceed four units
  • townhomes and
  • mobile homes.

The customer shall provide proper easements, including the right of ingress and egress for the installation, operation and maintenance of the FPL facilities.

Multiple occupancy residential buildings

Underground electric distribution facilities may be installed within the tract of land upon which multiple occupancy residential buildings are to be constructed.

Underground primary and secondary from overhead feeder mains will be constructed at no cost.

Additional charges also may apply if underground primary or secondary extends beyond the boundaries of the property being served. These instances will be subject to additional differential costs as determined by individual cost estimates.

If underground feeder mains are required, a differential cost between overhead and underground will apply.

FPL does not supply the underground service conductors to multiple occupancy buildings. The customer installs the service conductors to the FPL point of delivery based on the National Electric Code (NEC).

The customer shall provide proper easements, including the right of ingress and egress for the installation, operation and maintenance of the FPL facilities.

Non-residential services

Please contact your local FPL representative for commercial service:

  • costs associated to providing the voltage
  • availability and
  • type of service you require.

All commercial accounts require a deposit prior to starting service. Initially, the deposit is an estimated 2-month bill. After 6 months, FPL will adjust your deposit amount based on your actual usage. We will either bill you for an additional deposit or refund a portion of your deposit based on your 2-month average bill.

Deposits can be cash, letter of credit or a surety bond. Please contact your project manager for an estimated deposit amount.

Replacing overhead and underground service laterals

When requested, FPL will install underground service laterals from existing systems as replacements for overhead and underground services to existing residential buildings containing fewer than five (5) individual dwelling units.

Customers are responsible for rearranging their electric service entrance facilities to accommodate the proposed underground service lateral in accordance with FPL specifications.

The customer shall provide the trench, perform the backfilling and restore any landscaping, pavement, sprinkler systems or other similar repairs and install the FPL-provided conduit in accordance with FPL specifications. Please contact your FPL representative for a cost estimate.

Credits for customer installed conduit

Where, by mutual agreement, the customer installs the FPL-provided conduit, trench and backfilling, the customer will receive a credit for such work, provided that the work is in accordance with FPL specifications. The credit will be granted after the work has been inspected by FPL or after FPL pulls all applicable conductors. Such credit shall not exceed the total differential costs.
