Solar in your community

We’re partnering with communities across Florida, and helping homeowners, businesses and schools better understand and use solar energy as part of a pilot program approved by the Florida Public Service Commission.

Solar for schools and other demonstration sites

Depending on where you live in Florida, it’s likely that a school or other educational facility like a museum or a zoo near you is either producing solar energy now, or will be very soon. FPL is installing solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at more than 100 sites across 23 counties to give students and communities hands-on experience with renewable energy. In addition to education, the energy that the solar panels produce is credited to the school or other demonstration site, saving money on their energy costs. It’s all part of our commitment to helping our future generations learn about solar energy.

Help for homeowners and businesses

We’re helping thousands of homeowners and businesses with the high upfront cost of solar panels. In fact, if you see solar panels on the roof of a home or business in your community, chances are FPL helped to make it possible through our solar rebate program. We’ve given out millions of dollars in solar rebates for solar photovoltaic panels and hot water heaters since 2010. Learn more about our solar rebate program. Also, learn about net metering, a program that helps FPL customers earn a payback from connecting approved renewable generation systems - such as solar panels - to the electric grid.

Solar partnerships with affordable-housing non-profits

FPL is partnering with local Habitat for Humanity chapters and other non-profits to install solar water heater systems, free of charge, for more than 400 homes being built or refurbished for families in need in 14 Florida counties.
