See Solar In Action

Looking for a fun activity for your family, and want to learn a little something, too? You can see solar energy in action at some museums, zoos and other education centers throughout Florida. As part of our commitment to partnering with communities across the state, we’re helping these facilities install solar panels and hands-on educational exhibits. Here are the recently completed installations—with more to come!

Central Florida Zoo

Come to the Central Florida Zoo and see how sunshine is made into energy! The Zoo now features 40 solar panels to help capture and generate energy and supply electrical power to the Wayne Densch Discovery Center. In addition to education, the energy that the solar panels produce will be credited to the Zoo, saving money on energy costs.

As part of a partnership with FPL, visitors to Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex just East of Orlando can see a 25-kW solar panel system on the covered walkway by the new Space Shuttle Atlantis attraction. If you go for a visit, be sure to also look for our educational exhibit.

Museum of Discovery and Science

At the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale, you can see solar energy in action at a slot car racetrack – all powered by Florida’s sunshine. A 25-kW solar panel system installed above the main entrance captures the sun’s rays and converts it into electricity. Visitors can see this real-time energy production at the FPL exhibit within the museum.
