Lighting Incentives: Turn on the Savings

On average, interior lighting accounts for 28 percent of a business’s energy consumption. With FPL’s Business Lighting program, you can save energy and money, while improving light quality and output. Because our program offers a variety of lighting options to reduce energy use, you’re in control of the savings.

Breaking down the benefits

Whether you have a small or large business, you’ll benefit from:

  • Valuable incentives of 65 cents to $2 for linear fluorescent lamps
  • Reduced operating and maintenance costs
  • Better-quality lighting for less money, and 
  • Lower wattage usage.

How to qualify

When you decide to upgrade your lighting, a Customer Manager will help you though the entire process, from qualifying to selecting the lighting system that's right for your business.

 Here is some basic qualification information to consider before upgrading.

To qualify for an FPL lighting incentive or discount...

Have your new lighting system approved by FPL prior to installation.

Use an FPL Participating Independent Contractor to install the high-efficiency lighting system. (Your FPL incentive will be in the form of an up-front discount on the cost of the job.)

Use interior lighting (covered parking garages included) on a regular basis

  • April 1 through October 31
  • Any day(s) during the workweek
  • From 3 - 6 p.m.

Use a hard-wired system to make permanent energy-saving lighting modifications.

Qualifying systems

High-efficiency lighting systems* that qualify for FPL's lighting incentive include:

  • Installation of T8, T5 or T5HO lamps with electronic ballasts
  • Installation of pulse start lamps and electronic ballasts in metal halide fixtures
  • Permanent screw-in (with locking device) compact fluorescents or ceramic metal halides in hard-wired fixtures
  • Delamping with reflectors, tri-phosphor lamps and electronic ballasts
  • New hard-wired fixtures, such as fluorescent, ceramic metal halide or compact fluorescent lamps
  • Circuited current limiters with electronic ballasts with standard wattage lamps.

Business Works: A case study in success

Here's an example of how one FPL customer saved money and energy through the Business Lighting program:

  • Business: Athletic club facility in Sarasota, Fla.
  • Size: 23,000 square feet.
  • Improvement: Replaced 131 fluorescent fixtures with more efficient T8 fluorescent fixtures with electronic ballasts.
  • Incentive: Received a $293.80 FPL incentive, which covered nearly 4% of the total project cost.
  • Result: Decreased energy consumption by 26%, resulting in yearly savings of $5,387 on electric bills.
