FPL receives award for assistance to seniors

JUNO BEACH, Fla. – Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) was honored by the Southeastern Association of Area Agencies on Aging (SE4A) with the 2006 Public/Private Partnership Award.  The award was in recognition of FPL’s demonstrated leadership and commitment in developing programs and policies of mutual benefit to business and older Americans.

FPL was nominated for the award by the Area Agency for Aging of Southwest Florida, based on FPL’s partnership in the Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program.  The program provides emergency assistance for payment of energy bills for households with an elder (60 or older) living in a home.

For years, FPL has partnered with the Area Agency for Aging of Southwest Florida and other organizations throughout the state, administering the Emergency Home Energy Assistance for the Elderly Program, ASSIST, Care to Share and AWARE (Always Watching for At Risk Elders) programs, and post-storm assistance efforts.

“At FPL we’re proud to be recognized for our dedicated, ongoing assistance to the state’s senior population,” said Marlene Santos, vice president of Customer Service at FPL.  “We understand the need and importance of providing quality community-based programs and services to our customers.”

Louis Gonzalez Special Consumer Services supervisor and Kay Moran, Special Consumer Services area specialist, accepted the award on behalf of FPL.
