What's Included In The Fuel Charge?

The fuel charge, or fuel adjustment, reflects the actual cost of the fuel we use to generate your electricity. The charge is a mix of the different fuels used by all of our power plants, including natural gas, oil, nuclear, and coal. The cost of fuel used to make electricity has always been part of your bill, but to help keep you informed, it is now itemized on your bill.

One thing you won’t see as a part of the fuel charge is profit for FPL – because fuel prices are a direct pass through. That means you pay only what we pay, and not a penny more.

As an FPL customer, you will benefit from a 4.7% decrease in the price you pay for 1,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity, beginning on Jan. 5, 2007. The decrease is primarily the result of lower fuel costs than earlier forecast, as well as more fuel efficient operations at FPL power plants. A reduction in the charge you are paying for storm repairs is also contributing to the new lower rates.

On November 8, 2006, the Florida Public Service Commission, the regulatory authority that oversees costs customers pay for electricity, approved this decrease in your electric bill.
