Help For Seniors And Those On Fixed Incomes
Of particular concern to FPL are our many senior customers and those on low, fixed incomes who may have difficulty adjusting to higher bills. As a result, FPL works to help them through:
- The FPL Care To Share Program®. Founded in 1994, nearly $7.2 million (through year-end 2005) has been raised, and more than 42,000 families have received assistance. In 2006 FPL gave $1 million to Care To Share to help families in crisis situations
- A low income weatherization program. This program covers $10 of the cost to install weather stripping, caulking and door sweeps and $35 for inspecting A/C units to identify those needing maintenance.
- FPL works with Habitat for Humanity to place energy conservation features in homes built through the program within our service territory. This year alone, the company will include BuildSmart® features into hundreds of Habitat homes through its BuildSmart® for Humanity program.
