Net Metering: Renewable Generation Pays You Back

Net Metering allows FPL customers to earn a payback from connecting approved renewable generation systems - such as solar panels - to the electric grid. On any given day, you generate electricity from free, renewable sources like the sun and wind, providing energy for your home or business and reducing the amount you purchase from FPL and your monthly bills. If your system ever produces more energy than you need, the excess is supplied to the grid and that amount is
subtracted from your current monthly bill or banked for use on a future bill in the same calendar year.

To be eligible, complete the application process for your Interconnection Tier listed below and FPL will replace your electric meter to correctly measure excess power supplied to the grid. This is needed to calculate the net impact on your bill.

Eligible Energy Sources

Several types of renewable energy systems are potentially eligible for net metering:

  • Solar energy (photovoltaic)
  • Wind energy
  • Biomass (landfill gas or methane)
  • Hydroelectric power

  • Ocean energy (tidal power or ocean currents)
  • Hydrogen
  • Waste heat
  • Geothermal energy

What's In It for You?

  • Receive solar rebates from FPL as well as tax incentives from government.

  • Reduce your monthly electricity bill.

  • Help the environment by shrinking your "carbon footprint."

Interconnection Tiers

Tier One (0 - 10kW)
Tier Two (>10kW - 100kW)
Tier Three (>100kW - 2mW)
