Pole Inspections
We have enhanced our comprehensive pole inspection, record-keeping and reporting so that our more than one million wood poles are inspected on an eight-year cycle, adopting the requirements specified by the Florida Public Service Commission.
FPL has become more proactive in its inspection process. We are also coordinating with other utilities in order to ensure that ALL poles, regardless of ownership, are inspected in the most effective way.
The following steps are taken in the pole inspection process:
1. Inspection |
2. Chemical Treatment |
|
 |
Poles are inspected for exterior damage or weathering.
We may drill into the pole to evaluate the interior
condition and dig around the base of the pole,
when possible.
|
Pole resiliency is strengthened with
treatment and reinforcement, or replaced. |
3. Strength Analysis |
4. Tagging |
 |
 |
| Calculations are made on site to verify that the pole
can sustain the utility equipment connected to it. |
The poles will be tagged to indicate when the inspection
was complete. |
