Post-Hurricane Repairs
After a major storm, our crews immediately begin repairs to your electrical system to restore your power as quickly and safely as possible. This sometimes involves making temporary repairs to save time and continue with our restoration efforts more efficiently. Once these efforts are completed, we return to the affected areas and assess the work that needs to be done to return the system to a pre-storm state.
Through our Storm Secure® plan, we have completed all of the post-hurricane follow-up work to repair or replace distribution, transmission and substation facilities that were damaged in the prior storm seasons. This required a complete assessment of the damage to the system from the 2005 storm season.
By April 30, 2006 we completed all of these repairs:
- Patrolled more than 17,000 miles of distribution power lines.
- Repaired or replaced approximately 108,000 streetlights.
- Corrections were made at more than 50,000 locations.
Thankfully, we did not have major storms affect our service territory in 2006.
