Your safety matters to us, especially during severe weather. Whether you’re an FPL EVolution® Home customer or using our public chargers, don’t forget to consider your EV in your storm preparation and recovery plans.
Charge your EV before a storm makes landfall if conditions allow. Due to safety hazards, avoid charging during a storm to avoid potential damage to your vehicle or charging equipment. During a storm, unplug your EV from a home or public charger and secure charging cables to minimize risk of water damage.
Store EVs in a garage or covered area to protect them from storm-related hazards. If parking outside, secure your vehicle in a location away from trees, power lines, or objects that could cause damage during high winds. Avoid parking in low-lying areas to prevent possible flooding.
Our stations have CCS and CHAdeMO connectors suitable for most vehicle makes and models. We can accommodate Tesla vehicles with a CCS or CHAdeMO adaptor available from Tesla. Select locations have NACS adapters for Teslas; filter your search in the app for this feature. Drivers using our level 2 chargers should use the J1772 adaptor that came with your vehicle.
Like gas-powered cars, driving an EV in flooded areas during or after a storm can pose risks. Water damage to electrical systems may lead to power loss and safety hazards. Avoid driving through flooded roads to protect the vehicle and ensure personal safety.
We encourage you to get a full charge before a storm arrives. Following a storm, our EV chargers will be in operation as long as there is power in the area. You can check the FPL EVolution app for station availability and should follow local and state safety guidelines for driving in severe weather.
Check the FPL EVolution app for real-time updates on public charger availability.
If any public chargers have sustained damage, we will inspect them safely and as quickly as possible to ensure they are secure and available for use. Make sure your push notifications are enabled for the most up-to-date alerts.
