FPL is continuously working to enhance the reliability of your service. Starting in July 2017, we will be working on a project in the Coral Gables and Miami area that will help make the energy grid stronger and more storm-resilient.
This project will require upgrading an existing transmission line along Ponce de Leon Boulevard. The upgraded poles will be able to withstand winds of 145 mph, which will help speed the power restoration efforts after severe weather conditions or a tropical storm.
While the installation of the poles is not scheduled until later this year, the company will begin work to prepare the area for the project. Along Ponce de Leon Boulevard between Red and Douglas roads, identified trees will be removed or relocated due to their interference with the upgraded transmission line. However, FPL will be replacing more vegetation than it is removing per the codes of the City of Coral Gables. All vegetation will comply with the company’s Right Tree/Right Place program to ensure reliable energy and reduce power interruptions.

The majority of the tree work will take place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. We pledge to work safely and respectfully in your community, as well as make reasonable efforts to minimize any noise related to the project and any other inconveniences to you or your neighbors.
You can receive updates on the project at this page. Should you have any questions concerning this project, please call 1-800-693-3267, Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Please refer to the Coconut Grove-Galloway project.
