Employee Giving Program
FPL employees have a strong tradition and history of supporting United Way and other nonprofits in their community. Through the company's annual employee giving campaign, employees make pledges through payroll deductions and special event fundraising. In 2020, our company and our employees contributed more than $19 million to support wide-ranging initiatives and causes that contribute to the well-being of our local communities.

Educational Matching Gifts
NextEra Energy provides a dollar-for-dollar match of employee gifts to eligible high schools, colleges and universities. Since 2003, the NextEra Energy Foundation has provided matches totaling $3.8 million.

Disaster Relief
In the past, FPL has provided assistance to areas impacted by major weather events. In 2018, FPL crews deployed four times to assist in power restoration efforts after a natural disaster, some working six months away from home. They helped restore power in the Bayamon region of Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria; in the Carolinas, Florida’s Panhandle and Georgia in some of the hardest hit areas impacted by Hurricanes Florence and Michael; and in Northern California to areas devastated by the Camp Fire. NextEra Energy donated over $2.3 million to those impacted by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria, Michael and Dorian in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Most recently, in 2020, as a result of the COVID-19 global pandemic, NextEra Energy and our employees committed more than $5.2 million in emergency assistance funds that is being distributed directly to those in need and to partner organizations to provide critical support to the most vulnerable members of the communities we serve.

Aiding in the fight against homelessness and poverty

We work hard to power thriving communities throughout Northwest Florida by providing support - in the form of both manpower and donations - to organizations that work with our homeless and poor populations. Through partnerships with Habitat for Humanity, area food banks and others, we help provide support for those seeking and maintaining better living and independence.

Standing united with our communities

Our teammates contribute to area United Way agencies through fundraising efforts and volunteer projects. In 2018, our teammates, both active and retired, donated more than half a million dollars to United Way agencies. More than 80 employees also worked to make a difference within the community through United Way's annual Day of Caring.

Making the season brighter for families

Each holiday season, our teammates take part in Communities Caring at Christmas. This is a project which provides gifts to children in need throughout Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. In 2018, employees made the season brighter for many families by raising $50,000 and donating 165 bicycles and helmets.
