We’re making some changes to the Budget Billing program that will take effect in January as Gulf Power becomes Florida Power & Light Company (FPL). For eligible customers that are already enrolled in Budget Billing, we will automatically transfer your enrollment into the FPL Budget Billing® program.
There are some minor differences in the new program, but rest assured, you will still enjoy the benefits of a more predictable energy bill. As an FPL Budget Billing customer, here’s what you will see:
What’s important to know is that at the end of 12 months you will have paid for exactly what you used, not a penny more, and not a penny less.
Unlike Gulf Power Budget Billing, FPL Budget Billing will recalculate your monthly bill each month throughout the year by continuously using your most recent 12-month usage. Also, your monthly bill will no longer be rounded to the nearest dollar. Your FPL Budget Billing amount may vary slightly month to month based on your energy usage at the premise but at the end of 12 months, you pay exactly what you used, not a penny more, and not a penny less.
Budget Billing gives you more predictable electric bills by evening out your energy costs over the year so you pay about the same amount each month. The program helps offset higher bills during months of hot or cold weather by building a reserve in the milder months when your bill is typically lower. For this reason, you may see a Budget Bill amount that is higher than your standard bill amount during months of more extreme temperatures. This is what helps keep your bills consistent each month.
There is no annual "true-up" period with FPL Budget Billing unless you close your account, you discontinue the program, or Budget Billing is discontinued because of a past-due bill.
Adjusting your budget billing amount one time per year means that at certain times your account may have a large deferred balance; continuously adjusting each month based on your most recent twelve months of bills will help prevent such large balances in your deferred balance.
FPL Budget Billing is available for most major customer groups, including residential (RS-1) and some business rate categories (GS-1 or GSD-1); other customer rate groups are not eligible for the program.
Keep in mind, you must keep your account current to remain enrolled in FPL Budget Billing; customers with overdue, unpaid balances may be removed from the program. In addition, eligible commercial rate categories must be an FPL customer for at least 12 months to enroll in the program.
We are sorry to hear that you are considering discontinuing FPL Budget Billing. To discontinue, please sign in to your account and follow the discontinue FPL Budget Billing process. Please keep in mind that once you discontinue Budget Billing, you will not be able to rejoin the program for 12 months.
