Federally Funded Rebate, Tax Credit and Loan Programs

FPL customers may benefit from various tax credits and rebate programs when they install energy efficient products in their homes or businesses. These programs are operated independently from FPL's energy efficiency programs. If customers follow the guidelines of each program, however, they may combine the savings available from these various programs:

Federal Tax Credits for Energy Efficient Equipment

  • Available for qualifying equipment installed in 2011 (Note: The requirements have changed from 2010)
  • HVAC (heating, ventilating, and cooling) systems, insulation, roofing, windows and doors may qualify

Federal Tax Credits for Renewable Energy Systems

  • Available for qualifying equipment installed through 2016
  • Solar water heaters, photovoltaic systems and geothermal heat pumps may qualify

Sarasota County's Get Energy Smart Rebate program

  • Created and ran by Sarasota County and the cities of Sarasota, North Port and Venice
  • HVAC systems, insulation, radiant barriers, windows, doors, appliances, lighting and solar water heaters may qualify
  • Launched Aug. 6, 2010 and will end when the funding runs out
  • Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

St. Lucie County Solar and Energy Loan Fund

  • Created by St. Lucie County and operated by the Solar and Energy Loan Fund of St. Lucie County
  • Low-interest loans will be available to qualifying county residents who install energy efficient equipment, including solar equipment
  • Launched December 20, 2010
  • Funded by grants from the U.S. Department of Energy

Miami-Dade Renovation for Energy Efficiency Loan Program

  • Administered by the South Florida Regional Planning Council
  • Revolving loan fund that provides funding to businesses in Miami-Dade County for making property improvements that result in a reduction in the electrical energy consumed by the business
  • Businesses in Miami-Dade County may apply
  • Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (“stimulus” funding)
