Yes, we have a list of frequently asked questions about underground service. FPL and other utilities use the overhead standard, established by the Florida Public Service Commission, as the most cost-effective type of construction. However, we are open to putting lines underground provided the additional cost is covered by or for the customer.
If you see vegetation interfering with power lines and causing sparking or any other hazardous condition, contact FPL immediately at 1-800-4OUTAGE (1-800-468-8243). Do not attempt to prune any vegetation growing near or on any overhead power line. Only specially-trained line clearing professionals should do that kind of work.
Other tree trimming requests can be made online. You’ll first need to log into FPL.com and then answer a few quick questions about the tree concern. Do not attempt to move or touch it. Assume all cables and wires are energized and stay far away from them and anything they may be touching, including tree branches and palm fronds – especially after a major storm. Also, remember to always keep away from flooded and debris-laden areas because they may be hiding downed lines.
