United Way Giving
NextEra Energy, Inc. employees have a strong tradition and history of supporting United Way. Employees make pledges through payroll deductions and special event fund raising. Since 2000, NextEra Energy and its employees have donated more than $36 million and countless hours of volunteer work.
Dollars for Doers
The FPL Dollars for Doers program allows the company to recognize, support, and encourage the valuable contributions of our employees' volunteer efforts. Through our Dollars for Doers program, employees who volunteer 20 hours or more can earn a $100 grant for their nonprofit organization and when they reach 40 hours they can earn an additional $250 grant.
Since the program began in 2008 and through July of 2012, 647 grants have been awarded to nonprofit organizations for a total of $173,250.
Educational Matching Gifts
NextEra Energy provides a dollar-for-dollar match of employee gifts to eligible high schools, colleges and universities. Since 2003, NextEra Energy has donated close to $1 million.
When disaster strikes close to home, NextEra Energy responds quickly by providing opportunities for employees to contribute to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. In 2008, employees contributed $35,000 for the Iowa flood victims. The company matched employee contributions, dollar-for-dollar, for a total of $70,000.
