Understand your FPL EVolution® Home charges

Your FPL EVolution® Home charges are conveniently included on your monthly FPL bill. Use the resources below to learn what each charge means, how EV charging usage is measured and where to find these details on your bill.

What the charges mean

Your monthly program charges are broken down into three components: The monthly program charge, non-fuel energy charge and fuel charge. You can take advantage of lower rates by charging during off-peak hours.

Monthly program charge:

Your monthly FPL EVolution Home charge covers the charger, installation and maintenance, and is based on your selected installation type:

  • Full installation: $36/month
  • Equipment-only: $27/month

EV energy usage:

The electricity used to charge your vehicle is measured separately from the electricity you use for the rest of your home.

  • EV off-peak charging: The regular, lower energy rate of 2.016¢/kWh applies
  • EV on-peak charging: The regular energy rate of 22.583¢/kWh applies

Select your FPL region to see how your EV energy usage appears on your bill:

Off-peak and on-peak EV energy charges are included in the non-fuel energy charge shown below the “Bill Details” section and do not appear as separate line items. Together, these charges total 3.516¢/kWh during off-peak hours and 24.083¢/kWh during on-peak hours.

Together, these charges total 3.977¢/kWh during off-peak hours and 24.544¢/kWh during on-peak hours.

EV non-fuel charge:

The non-fuel charge includes the costs other than fuel to produce and deliver electricity, including operating power plants and maintaining the electric grid.

How EV charging usage is measured

Your charger’s Wi-Fi connection records the electricity used to charge your vehicle during off-peak and on-peak hours. This allows your EV charging usage to be calculated separately from the rest of your home’s energy use. You can track this in your bill’s “Meter Summary” section.

Because your charger uses your home’s Wi-Fi connection to securely communicate charging information, losing connectivity for a prolonged period of time could lead to billing inaccuracies. It’s important to resolve any Wi-Fi connectivity issues promptly to ensure accurate billing.

Frequently asked questions

What is considered off-peak hours?

  • Throughout the day,  energy demands fluctuate. During “peak” demand periods – such as summer afternoons when air-conditioning usage is high, for example – the cost of generating energy is more expensive. There are also daily “off-peak” periods when electricity usage is lower, making the cost of producing energy less expensive.
  • From November through March, off-peak hours are Monday through Friday 10 pm to 6 am and 10 am to 6 pm; all weekend hours; and all hours for the holidays of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
  • From April through October, off-peak hours are 9 pm to 12 pm; all weekend hours; and all hours for the holidays of Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.
