What is FPL SolarTogether?

  • FPL SolarTogether is a community solar program designed to give you the opportunity to subscribe to a portion of solar energy generated by FPL’s large-scale solar energy centers across the state.
  • You can subscribe to FPL SolarTogether by paying a fixed monthly subscription charge. You will receive monthly bill credits for your share of the solar energy generated. Your credit rate will increase annually, which can help lower your monthly energy bill over time.
  • Program charges and credits appear on your monthly bill and you can cancel at any time without penalty.
  • The program is approved by the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) as a voluntary offering for FPL customers.

Why is FPL offering FPL SolarTogether?

  • FPL is committed to advancing cost-effective, reliable energy in Florida and maintaining a diverse energy mix to serve the state’s growing energy needs.
  • FPL SolarTogether was created to give you an easy and affordable way to participate in the benefits of solar energy, whether you rent or own your home. You can choose to participate with a subscription that fits your budget.
  • Customers who choose to participate in the program receive benefits from large-scale solar energy centers including monthly bill credits that could help save over time.

Is FPL SolarTogether the same as rooftop solar? Will FPL install panels on my roof if I enroll?

  • No. FPL SolarTogether is different from private rooftop solar and third-party solar financing. When you participate in SolarTogether, you do not purchase or lease solar panels, and no panels are installed on your roof or property. Instead, you subscribe to solar power generated at FPL’s large-scale solar energy centers across the state.
  • For those who wish to participate in the benefits of solar energy without putting panels on their roof or those who rent their home, FPL SolarTogether offers an affordable and accessible option.
  • With FPL SolarTogether, there are no long-term contracts, financing arrangements, installation or equipment costs, termination fees or additional liability insurance requirements. Your subscription is also transferable if you move within FPL’s service territory.

With my participation in FPL SolarTogether, will the solar energy produced through the program be delivered directly to my business?

  • No, not directly. The power generated by FPL SolarTogether solar energy centers is delivered to the energy grid along with energy from other generation sources across FPL’s system to power millions of Floridians.

Does FPL support rooftop solar customers?

  • FPL supports customers who choose to purchase private rooftop solar panels. For more information about FPL’s Net Metering program, visit FPL.com/NetMetering.

Who can participate in FPL SolarTogether?

  • The program is available throughout FPL’s service area on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to subscription availability.
  • You can choose to participate if you are an FPL customer in an eligible rate class. There must be 12 months of usage data associated with your premise and at least one month of billing usage. Your account must also be current with no delinquent balances.
  • Participation may be terminated by FPL if you become subject to collection actions on your FPL account.

Does my business need to be in the same community as the FPL SolarTogether solar energy centers to participate?

  • No. There is no geographic restriction on participation in FPL SolarTogether, as long as your business is within FPL’s service area and meets eligibility.

What if FPL SolarTogether is sold out and I want to participate?

  • You may join the program’s waitlist, and as subscriptions become available, you will be notified of your enrollment and projected billing date.
  • Subscription availability can open up when an existing participant decreases their subscription or exits the program.

How much solar energy can I subscribe to through FPL SolarTogether?

  • As a small-medium business FPL SolarTogether participant, you can subscribe to solar energy equal to up to 100% of your energy usage over the prior 12 months measured in kilowatts (kW), calculated on a rolling basis, subject to availability.
  • Visit FPL SolarTogether Price, Terms & Conditions

What is the monthly subscription charge?

  • The monthly subscription charge is a fixed dollar amount per kilowatt (kW) to which you subscribe. It reflects the costs of operating and maintaining solar energy centers in the FPL SolarTogether program.
  • Subscriptions are available in 1 kW increments at a fixed cost of $6.76 per kW.
  • During enrollment, your energy from the previous 12 months will be converted to kW to determine your maximum subscription level.

What is the monthly subscription credit?

  • The monthly subscription credit reflects your share of the solar energy generated by the solar energy centers each month.
  • Each month, FPL calculates the actual solar energy produced by the solar energy centers. Your share of that energy is based on your subscription level and is measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh). Your monthly credit is then calculated by multiplying your share of the solar energy produced by your subscription credit rate.
  • Your subscription credit rate increases by 1.5% annually, so your monthly credits are expected to grow the longer you remain in the program, which can help lower your monthly energy bill over time.

How will my monthly subscription charge and credit appear on my FPL bill?

  • Your monthly subscription charge and credit will appear as two separate line items on your FPL bill.

Why does my subscription credit fluctuate each month?

  • Your subscription credit is based on the actual monthly generation from the 44 solar energy centers in this program. The solar energy centers are located throughout FPL’s service territory — from North Florida to South Florida — to fully harness the power of the sun across regions.
  • It is important to note that any given month, season, or year, actual credits may be higher or lower. Bill credits are based on actual generation, which is influenced by varying weather conditions and other factors.
  • Due to this variability, actual subscription credits may vary month-to-month, year-to-year or over multi-year periods.

When can I expect to see FPL SolarTogether lower my monthly FPL bill?

  • Because your credit rate increases by 1.5% annually, subscription credits are expected to grow. You will start seeing savings once your subscription credits exceed your charges.
  • Keep in mind, due to weather variability and solar generation, actual credits may fluctuate month-to-month and year-to-year. Bill credits are based on actual generation from the 44 solar energy centers in this program, which is influenced by varying weather conditions and other factors. The solar energy centers are located throughout FPL's service territory — from North Florida to South Florida — to fully harness the power of the sun across regions.
  • You can also access this information on your FPL SolarTogether dashboard at FPL.com.

How will I know if I will get the total subscription amount I requested during enrollment?

  • Subscription requests will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Upon completion of the enrollment process, you will receive a confirmation email or letter detailing your subscription level, monthly subscription charge and projected billing start date.
  • You can also access the information on your FPL SolarTogether dashboard on FPL.com.

After I enroll, can I unsubscribe or make changes to my subscription?

  • Yes. After your first billing cycle enrolled in the program, you may reduce your subscription level or unsubscribe at any time.
  • If you unsubscribe at any time before the end of a billing cycle, your subscription will end immediately. You will not be charged or credited on your current bill or any future bills.
  • Refunds will not be provided for any subscription, and if you unsubscribe you will not be able to re-enroll for 12 months, subject to subscription availability. If you re-enroll later, your time in the program will start over. Any benefits tied to your previous time in the program, including subscription credit rate increases, will not carry over.

Can I increase my subscription?

  • If eligible, you may increase your subscription amount once per year following your enrollment anniversary date, subject to available capacity.
  • If you have multiple accounts and close an account with an FPL SolarTogether subscription, you may transfer your subscription to another active account with at least 12 months of usage, subject to subscription availability. This transfer must be completed within a 60-day period following cancellation.

If I unsubscribe, can I get a refund?

  • No. Refunds will not be issued for any subscription, and if you unsubscribe, you will not be able to re-enroll in FPL SolarTogether for 12 months, subject to subscription availability. If you re-enroll later, your time in the program will start over. Any benefits tied to your previous time in the program, including subscription credit rate increases, will not carry over.
  • If you unsubscribe at any time before the end of a billing cycle, your subscription will end immediately. You will not be charged or credited on your current bill or any future bills.

If I move, is my subscription transferable?

  • Yes, your subscription is transferable if you move within FPL’s service area and your FPL account remains in the same name. Subscriptions are not transferrable to other customers or outside of FPL’s service area.

If I enroll, when will billing begin?

  • After you complete the enrollment process, you will receive confirmation of your projected billing start date.
  • You can also access this information on your FPL SolarTogether dashboard on FPL.com.

How do you make sure the program continues to deliver benefits?

  • We continuously work to optimize our sites and have added solar energy centers to the program over time to maximize efficiency.
  • We have also added more tracking technology — enabling solar panels to tilt toward the sun as it moves across the sky so we can maximize sunshine all day — and have made equipment enhancements as needed.

How will FPL SolarTogether solar energy centers perform during/after a hurricane? Will my subscription be impacted?

  • FPL solar energy centers, including those in FPL SolarTogether, are built to local wind and building codes.
  • FPL is responsible for operating and maintaining its solar energy centers. Following a storm, should there be any damage or loss of equipment that could result in less solar generation, your credit could be lower while we assess the damage and complete the necessary repairs or replacements to restore generation as safely and quickly as possible.

What are Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)?

  • A Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) is a market-based instrument that represents the environmental attributes associated with the generation of electricity from renewable resources, such as a solar energy center.
  • It represents one-megawatt-hour of electricity.
  • RECs are used by businesses as a cost-effective way to offset their carbon footprint and/or meet regulatory requirements.

Does FPL retire RECs on behalf of customers?

  • Yes. FPL will retire RECs on a customer’s behalf to further optimize the program and align with industry best practices.
  • Because the RECs are retired on the customer’s behalf, customers do not take ownership of the RECs and cannot claim them for tax purposes.
  • Each REC is uniquely serial numbered and tracked in a certified renewable energy registry that documents ownership of the REC.
  • Upon request, FPL will provide appropriate documentation.

Does enrolling in FPL SolarTogether impact my usage, current rate structure, time-of-use, demand charges and/or load control credits?

  • No. Enrolling in FPL SolarTogether will not change the amount of kWh you consume monthly. It will have no impact on your existing rate structure, time-of-use charges and/or demand charges.

What are the terms and conditions of the FPL SolarTogether program?

  • The program is governed by the tariff (STR-Tariff no. 8.932) which is approved by the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC).
  • Please refer to the FPL SolarTogether Terms & Conditions for complete information.
