Required and optional appliances

The appliances you choose to enroll will determine how much money you save. We rarely activate the program and only cycle off selected equipment for short periods of time during extremely high electricity demand or system emergencies.

Required appliances

A qualifying central electric A/C system is required. If you have qualifying central electric heat, it must also be enrolled. While rarely activated, we may cycle off your A/C for up to three hours per day in the summer (April – October) and your heater for up to three hours per day in the winter (November – March).

Optional appliances

For additional savings, you can also enroll your conventional electric water heater and single-speed pool pump that can be switched off for up to four hours per day. With optional appliances, you can save even more!

Frequently asked questions

When is On Call typically activated?

This program is typically not activated at night, on weekends or during holidays. Historically, it has been implemented a few times per year in early to late afternoons on weekdays.

Who will install my On Call equipment?

An FPL-approved and licensed electrical contractor will install your On Call device. After you select the appliances you want to enroll and schedule your contractor visit to confirm you qualify, we'll send confirmation and reminder emails with your appointment details. You must be present at your home for the technician to confirm your appliance eligibility and install the device.
FPL-approved contractors:

  • Strategic Energy
  • Scope Services

Do I have to be home for the installation?

Yes, someone over the age of 18 must be present at the time of installation.

What is the size of the On Call energy-management device?

The On Call device is a small, rectangular box that is approximately 7” x 3.5” x 8".

Where will the On Call device be installed?

The On Call device will be installed next to your enrolled appliances.

I have two central A/C units. Is it possible to enroll one of them, or do I have to enroll both?

Yes, both A/Cs must be enrolled. If you have three or more units, only the first two must be enrolled.

When will I begin to see a credit on my bill?

It takes about 2-3 weeks after installation for the On Call device to be enrolled. At that time, your credits for the On Call program will begin.

Why is my bill credit lower than expected?

If your appliance(s) have not been on the program for a full month, or in the event of low premise energy consumption, an adjusted credit will appear on your bill.

1 The self-enrollment questions help determine your eligibility for On Call. If you’re a renter, you’ll need your landlord’s approval to enroll in the program. If you’re unable to schedule an appointment, On Call may not be offered in your area just yet – but we’re working on it.

2 Typically, the program is only activated during times of high energy usage or emergency situations. On Call credits are dependent on the appliances enrolled being approved by FPL or the contractor; maximum annual savings is $91.75.

This program may be modified or canceled without notice. You may cancel at any time by giving us a call. Customers that discontinue must wait one year to re-enroll. During system emergencies (e.g. extreme weather conditions and capacity shortages as determined by FPL), On Call may be activated for extended periods of time, which may exceed your enrollment agreement.
