Charging during off-peak hours

Electricity used by your FPL EVolution Home charger is billed at different rates depending on when you charge. Charging during off-peak hours allows you to take advantage of a reduced energy cost.

Your FPL EVolution Home charger is pre-programmed to charge during off-peak hours, so there’s no need to plug in at a specific time. Simply plug in your vehicle, and your charger will automatically begin charging during the next off-peak period.

If you need to charge sooner, you can override the default schedule using the FPL EVolution app. Keep in mind that charging during on-peak hours will result in higher energy charges, even if you have your own energy generation, such as rooftop solar. Once you’ve finished charging, remember to turn Off-Peak Only back on to continue taking advantage of the reduced energy cost during off-peak hours.

I charged during on-peak hours

Charging during on-peak hours is billed at a rate of approximately 28¢/kWh, in addition to your other program charges. This rate applies even if you have your own energy generation, such as rooftop solar.

To help maximize the value of your participation in FPL EVolution Home, we recommend charging during off-peak hours. Your charger is set to charge off-peak by default, but you can override this schedule in the FPL EVolution app if you need to charge immediately. Once you’ve finished charging, remember to turn Off-Peak Only back on to continue taking advantage of the reduced energy cost during off-peak hours.

I have unexpected charges

Your bill may look different than expected if:

  • You charged during on-peak hours. Electricity used during on-peak hours is billed at a higher rate in addition to your off-peak charges and monthly program charge.
  • Your charger lost its Wi-Fi connection. A stable Wi-Fi connection is necessary to ensure your EV charging usage is accurately recorded. If your off-peak charging usage appears unusually low or is listed as zero kWh on your bill, your charger may have lost its Wi-Fi connection.

  • Electric rates changed. Program charges, fuel energy charges and non-fuel energy charges are reviewed periodically and subject to change upon approval by the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC).
