Small changes can add up for your business
Rising Tide Car Wash began with founder John D’Eri’s vision of creating meaningful employment opportunities for his son Andrew and other people with autism.
As Andrew approached adulthood, John saw that few opportunities awaited him after he aged out of the school system. In 2011, John turned that challenge into an idea: a car wash where Andrew and others like him could build careers and find their place in the world.
Rising Tide was built on recognizing untapped potential, an approach that extends to how the business operates, including how to save energy.
We recently joined the Rising Tide Car Wash team for an FPL Business Energy Evaluation to examine how energy fits into its day-to-day operations. At a car wash, pumps, vacuums, water systems and other equipment work together to keep vehicles moving through efficiently.
Watch the video to see what we found during our visit, then check out three takeaways that could apply to your business.
1. Keep cooled air inside
One opportunity we spotted was a gap around the door leading to the lobby. Sealing gaps around doors can help keep cooled air inside and reduce the workload on the A/C.
The same idea applies to windows and other openings throughout your business.
2. Put energy use on a schedule
Using timers for lighting and A/C can make energy management easier by ensuring these systems operate when needed and turn off when they’re not. Consider whether timers could simplify energy-saving routines in your business.
3. Know what’s available
FPL Energy Manager can help you understand and manage your business’s energy use. Use it to track usage over time, identify trends and find opportunities to save.
